For one brief moment in time, Roosevelt, Long Island was a beacon of hope for mixed- race, middle class communities across America. A place where your next door neighbor was your best friend no matter their color or creed. A place where every child was encouraged to continue their education and where a government funded community center provided programs that inspired vocations and dreams.
