Blk Grl Sonnet is comprised of powerful, relatable, and poetic moments shared through the experiences of a young African American female named Kiyata. Although, the film was written from a personal perspective, it was inspired by the black women from both reality and vast media perspective. The film itself was written to give recognition to the many "average", unique, beautiful, multi-talented and strong black women who have shared experiences with love, upbringing, education, their careers, and even their mental health. The goal of this short film was to highlight that sometimes things just are not okay and for a black female who endures so much pressure to meet and exceed various expectations, sometimes its good to know its okay not to be okay but to still know the value of your worth.
