At the age of twelve, Aleksey, climbing the Krasnopolyanskaya cable car, which was accidentally stopped, and without waiting for the resumption of its movement, got off the lift and began to climb, but when the cable car was turned on again, he fell and lost both legs. Four months after the accident, he got on prostheses, two more - he ran roller skates and rode a bicycle, less than a year after the injury he returned to skiing. Two years later he already participated in competitions, and four years later he won the Winter Paralympic Games for the first time.
