John, a 40-year-old homeless father, is dreaming that he is tied up to a chair and tormented by an oppressor. Suddenly he wakes up gasping for air and we see that he was sleeping in a dirty valley. His clothes are filthy and he looks like he hasn't showered in months. Moments later while his homeless companion is talking to him, he hears a little girl giggling. Distracted by this, he looks and sees a 8 year old little girl and her mother walking by. His eyes lock on the girl as time slows down and every other noise around him starts to get farther and farther away. After this, his homeless companion snaps him out of his daydream and when John arrives back to reality he walks away without saying a word. When he is finally alone he reaches, and grabs his dusty bag and opens it carefully taking out an old, ripped, filthy teddy bear. Looking at the bear he wraps it between his arms like his valuable treasure until he falls asleep. Later he continues to dream where the oppressor is abusing him and inciting fear and guilt in him because of his past mistakes. John must then choose between facing his past or continue to run away from it.
