Storyline:  In 1933 Louisiana, the Morgan family, Black sharecroppers bound by love and resilience, is shaken when Nathan Lee Morgan is convicted of a minor crime and sent to a prison camp. Struggling to hold the family together, Rebecca Morgan sends their 11-year-old son on a journey to visit his father. Along the way, the boy finds guidance from a devoted schoolteacher.
