The Color of Iris (1974)

K-12 (GR) | Greece | Greek | 100 min
Directed by: Nikos Panayotopoulos
7.2

On a deserted beach, the restless seven-member film crew of an Athens-based advertising company is impatiently waiting for the sun to rise to conclude the shooting of a perfume commercial. Suddenly, a mysterious passer-by holding an umbrella enters the set. Then, after a laconic but honest apology, the stranger walks into the sea in unflinching determination and vanishes into thin air a few moments later. Of course, the voracious camera eye captures this seemingly straightforward act of despair. However, as the ever-watching police, the local news media, and the polarised public opinion enter the picture, the already fragile boundaries between reality and fantasy start fading away. Now, unable to swallow a preposterous explanation, inquisitive jingle composer Nikos decides to take matters into his own hands and try to shed light on this impenetrable conundrum. But was this unfortunate incident a suicide, an accident, or was it something entirely different?
