Based on the novel of the same name by Manuel Puig, Heartbreak Tango narrates the lives of several characters in the fictitious town of Coronel Vallejos. After the death of Juan Carlos Etchepare, Nené and other women reveal, through letters and confessions, the secrets and relationships they had with him and how they moved on with their lives over the years. The film portrays an era marked by machismo, which relegated women to the domestic sphere, and exposes the taboos, pressures and abuses of power to which they were subjected. Directed by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson, with a script written in collaboration with Puig.
