By the end of 1974, the Americans have withdrawn their troops from Saigon and President Thieu is on the verge of packing up his bags as well. The U.S. presence is reduced to a handful of advisers, amongst whom the C.I.A. members. It is against this surreal backdrop that Bob Chesneau (Frederic Forrest), a C.I.A. analyst, and Barbara Dean (Dame Judi Dench), a bank executive, are having an affair.
