Dark Eyes (1987)

Years before World War I, Romano relates his love story to a stranger aboard ship. Through a series of flashbacks, his past is revealed: a man who, after leaving home, embarks on a search for Anna, a Russian woman trapped in an unhappy marriage, with whom he has fallen in love. The Italian, played by the great Marcello Mastroianni recalls their brief but intense romance. This film is inspired by a series of short stories by Chekhov.
