In Chicago, the Irish violinist Emma Brody has been blinded for twenty years. When she was eight, her abusive mother surprised her wearing makeup and hit her face on the mirror, blinding her. Emma plays with the folk band The Drovers in a club and when the womanizer Detective John Hallstrom sees her in the club, he unsuccessfully tries to attract her attention, not aware that she is a blind woman. Now her Dr. Ryan Pierce has found a donor and carries out the corneal transplant. Emma has blurred and sometimes delayed vision, and sort of hallucination. When she sees a man in the middle of the night in her building, Emma goes to the police station, but Det. Hallstrom does not give credit to her. But soon her neighbor in apt. 3B is found dead, Det. Hallstrom visits Emma. Soon there are a second and a third victim from the serial killer and Det. Hallstrom, Det. Thomas Ridgely and Lt. Mitchell have Emma as a witness of the first murder. Meanwhile, Emma and Hallstrom feel attracted by each other. When they learn the motive of the killings, they realize that the life of Emma is in danger.
