When Sheriff Mitch Rivers finds the bodies of two prominent and wealthy citizen of his town in their bedroom on the Halloween night, he asks Deputy Bear to bring his friend, the psychologist, Dr. Jake Rainer, to the crime scene. Mr. and Mrs. Warden had been stabbed to death and their autistic son Tim Warden is the only witness, but he does not speak. The other survivor is his teenage sister Sylvie Warden, who claims that has not seen the face of the killer. Jake was a specialist in autistic children but lost his passion when a boy that was his client committed suicide, affecting his and his wife's lives, the lawyer Karen Rainer. He refuses the case, and the psychiatrist Dr. Rene Harlinger assumes the treatment of Tim expecting a revelation about the killer. When Jake sees how Tim is being treated by Dr. Harlinger, who uses drugs, Sylvie and he ask Mitch to assume the case. He gets close to Tim and his protective sister Sylvie while treating Tim. When Mitch finds hidden photos of Tim, Jake sees that the case is more serious than he has imagined.
