Captain Bruce Cavanaugh, accompanied by Trooper Tom Wallace, is dispatched by the Commander of the Canadian North West Mounted Police to Fort Qu'Appelle, to put a stop to the fur smuggling trade. At the fort, Cavanaugh meets and falls in love with Madeline Du Barre, the daughter of a fur smuggler. Finding himself torn between love and duty, Cavanaugh is forced to arrest Madeline's father, thus forcing her to join forces with smugglers Jules Lafitte and Fourchette in order to win the release of her father. The trio succeeds, but in the jail break Tom Wallace is shot and killed. Cavanaugh takes up the pursuit of Madeline and the three men, finding Madeline wandering alone on the American desert after Fourchette and Lafitte have killed each other in a duel. The Mountie returns to Canada with the woman he loves, and when a witness comes forth to testify that Lafitte and Fourchette were Wallace's killers, Madeline and her father are cleared of the crime.
