Safety Last! (1923)

A young man leaves his small country town, promising his girlfriend they will marry once he succeeds in the big city. He finds a job as a clerk at a department store but struggles to impress his boss and maintain his pretenses of success. When his girlfriend unexpectedly visits, he pretends to be the store manager. Desperate to make good, he devises a daring stunt to attract customers: to climb a tall building.
