When Helen Bransby and her sweetheart, Stephen Pryde, attend a party, they participate in a séance, even though neither believes in spiritualism. Helen dismisses a warning during the séance that Stephen faces a future problem, but they soon learn that a member of his firm has embezzled a large sum of money and is framing Stephen for the crime. After the embezzler is uncovered, he is forced to admit his guilt by signing a statement that is placed in a book by Helen's father, Richard. When Richard dies, the statement is lost, after which Stephen joins the army. During his absence, Helen becomes engaged to marry the embezzler, but Stephen is drawn to return to Helen by some unseen power and returns in time to stop the marriage. After the paper exonerating Stephen is found, the real embezzler is unmasked.
