Storyline:  In the aftermath of WWI, a mine split by the new border between France and Germany faces a catastrophic fire in the French section. As the blaze threatens to engulf the entire complex, a German rescue team is dispatched. Meanwhile, three German miners, spurred by personal grievances and a sense of camaraderie, attempt a daring and dangerous underground rescue of the French miners through a tight tunnel.
