Storyline:  Woodrow Lafayette Pershing Truesmith, discharged from the Marines for hayfever before seeing action, delays going home in shame. Befriended by fellow Marines, he is encouraged to return under the pretense of being a battle hero. Back home, Woodrow faces fame he never sought: songs, a statue, and even an unsolicited run for mayor, while no one will believe his truth.
