London, 1946. Canadian John Graham worked in the British resistance during the war, and now in this post-war era, he supervises the cryptology department for the British Service, his team breaking codes to enemy messages, they who still include the Nazis and which still includes issues concerning the war. His British wife Carol worked alongside him in both capacities until recently as she is on leave in expecting their first child. Her devotion to him is demonstrated by her being captured by the Gestapo during the war in they searching for John, his whereabouts which she never divulged, the resulting torture which left her with a permanent limp. As they are out together one evening, Carol is killed in a hit-and-run, John who is able to glean some information about the male and female in the vehicle at the moment. John decides to find the two to exact revenge for Carol's death. He hatches an elaborate plot, which uses in part his position, to do what the two did to Carol in a literal eye for an eye.
