Storyline:  At Cinecittà studios, director Alessandro Blasetti holds auditions for a girl to star in his new film. Maddalena Cecconi, a working-class mother, dreams of her daughter Maria becoming a star. Against her husband’s wishes, she spares no expense—enrolling Maria in dance and acting classes, hiring photographers and stylists, and trusting a ruthless agent who promises connections for the audition.
