Storyline:  Robert Leffingwell is nominated for Secretary of State and faces a Senate inquiry led by Senator Brig Anderson. The hearings expose political tensions and questions about Leffingwell’s past links to a Communist group. Although he clears himself during testimony, Anderson later discovers he lied under oath. As he urges the president to withdraw the nomination, Anderson and his wife begin receiving blackmail threats tied to a long-hidden personal secret.
