Night of Evil (1962)

Dixie Ann Dikes, a Colorado teenager living with her foster parents, is assaulted by her school's football hero, who is jealous because she is dating another student. Her parents refuse to believe her explanation, and the courts send her to a girls' reform school. Released two years later, she goes to live with a former schoolmate. Soon, Dixie meets a promoter who enters her in the Miss Colorado beauty contest. After Dixie wins the competition, she becomes involved with ex-convict Chuck Logan, who marries her after a whirlwind courtship. Logan reverts to a life of crime; he tries to kidnap a policeman, but is arrested. Dixie's marriage thus is made public, and she must withdraw from the Miss America pageant. Despondent, she obtains work as a stripper. Later, she is injured in a scuffle with a drunk. She then buys a gun, but her suicide attempt is aborted. Finally, she is arrested for trying to hold up a drugstore.
