Accattone (1961)

In the gritty backstreets of Rome, Vittorio, dubbed "Accattone," ekes out a precarious existence as a pimp, relying solely on his sole prostitute, Maddalena. His detached life with estranged wife Ascenza and son Iaio is upended when a violent clash leaves Maddalena imprisoned. Desperate and destitute, Accattone grapples with the idea of honest work but is drawn to a vulnerable new woman, and tries to bring her to his dark world.
