“The Good Time Girls” follows the comings and goings of four Parisian shopgirls looking for romance. Their lives, contrary to the glamour suggested by the film’s title, are far from such. They frequent music halls, public swimming pools, and the zoo. They engage with mysterious and questionable men who pick them up while cruising in cars, or who follow them on their motorcycles. They spend entire nights out, only to stumble into work half-asleep the next day. This nominee for the Top 10 Best Films of 1960 by Cahiers du Cinema is a must watch for all fans of the French New Wave.
