Storyline:  Four interrelated vignettes depict the lives of Cuban people during the pre-revolutionary era. In Havana, Maria leads a double life, working as a bar prostitute to support herself. In the countryside, Pedro, an aging farmer, faces eviction when his land is sold to a U.S. corporation. A university student witnesses the brutal suppression of leftist activism. Mariano, a farmer, is drawn into the revolution after his village is bombed.
