Catembe (1965)

(Banned) (PT) | Portugal | Portuguese | 80 min
Directed by: Faria de Almeida
7.2

A documentary with a fiction thread about a typical week in Mozambique's capital, and a street inquest in Lisbon about the perception they had about a main African colony or, as the Government considered it then, "province". Sequences of life in poor districts, a girl named Catembe born of a love relationship between a black fisherman and a white bar girl, and night life and dancing to African folk and jazz music were expunged from the film's first version - only for the second version to be banned after the avant premiere.
