Storyline:  In early-1960s Spain, a gentle executioner nears retirement and worries about his replacement and his unmarried daughter. She meets a young undertaker, equally rejected because of his trade. Marriage seems possible until the father makes a condition: the groom must inherit the executioner’s post, trusting that sentences will never be carried out.
