Black God, White Devil (1964)

After killing his boss in a dispute over wages, Manuel flees with his wife into the drought-stricken sertão of Northern Brazil. Thrust into a violent landscape, the couple falls under the sway of the self-proclaimed saint Sebastião, who leads a religious cult that preaches rebellion and condones violence against wealthy landowners. As Manuel struggles with his growing outlaw status, bounty hunter Antônio das Mortes is hired to hunt them down.
