Living in a secluded château with his permanently scarred wife Anne, wealthy artist/botanist Frédéric Lansac hires pretty nurse Agnès to take care of his disfigured partner. But when Lansac learns that discredited plastic surgeon Professor Römer can restore Anne's former beauty, he blackmails the doctor into doing his bidding, bent on going to extremes to succeed.
