Garshome is a melodrama which deals with the effects of economic migration on individuals and their families. Intellectual Nazrudden spends several years in the oil-rich Arabian Gulf to support his family, who are left behind in India. An idealist to the core, he is not involved in get-rich-quick schemes. As he returns poorer than when he left, discontent begins to brew in his family. But he is determined never to go back. He pawns his wife's jewelry and borrows money from loan sharks to start a hardware shop, which is confiscated by Sales Tax authorities whom he refuses to bribe. Nazrudeen has no choice but to return to his solitary existence in the Gulf.
