Mahakavi Kalidas (1942)

Shunned by his upper-caste and widowed stepmother, her son, and villagers for falling in love with a low-caste woman, Kali, a Brahman himself, is asked to leave the village along with the woman he loves. Their travels will take them to a distant kingdom ruled by a king and his snobbish daughter. The princess, after hearing Kali's girlfriend melodious voice, will hire her to sing at the palace. Kali, too, will be summoned - not to sing - but to compete with the princess, and the result of this competition will change Kali's life forever.
