The hard days of August 1941. Enemy troops approached Zaporozhye, the island of Khortitsa was captured, from its high banks the Nazis fired on the city. Our troops sought at all costs to recapture this bridgehead. The Soviet soldiers were helped by schoolchildren - fighters of the Young Chapaivets detachment. They found out the location of fascist military installations and made bonfires a signal to the Soviet paratroopers. Khortitsa was released.
