Following the unsuccessful attempt of Omer Vrioni to conquer the impenetrable fort of Missolonghi in 1822 during the First Siege of Missolonghi, and the defeat of Mustafa Reshit Pasha in 1823 during the Second Siege, the brave Greek patriots still hold their ground. However, after the demise of the heroic general and captain of the courageous Souliotes, Markos Botsaris, the vastly outnumbered, outgunned, and besieged revolutionaries started to face food shortages, extreme famine, and disease, leaving them no other choice but to plan their desperate exodus on April 10, 1826. Do heroes die like Greeks?
