Brian Barry, an amateur jockey, buys Dawn of Hope, a weedy-looking yearling, singly and solely because it is the favorite of the breeder's daughter, Lorna, and he also accepts a big bet about the colt winning the blue ribbon of the turf from Anthony Crieff, who is also in love with Lorna. Brian, however, is the accepted suitor, but he loses his entire fortune at cards to Crieff in an evening, and so writes and releases Lorna from her promise. In a fit of pique she engages herself to Crieff, but on the eve of the big race, overhearing a plot to nobble Dawn of Hope, she rushes off to warn Brian, and arrives on the racecourse just in time to prevent the crooked jockey from riding, so the colt wins Brian the race, a fortune and a wife.
