At the station of Carcassonne, Diane, a pretty blonde, meets Edouard, his friend, whom she has not seen for a year. She was working on her thesis, devoted to the decline of socialism in France. Both go to a small mountain village where Edward used to spend his holidays as a child. It is there that they meet Gilbert, an old friend of Edouard's mother, who leads a peaceful community life, in the spirit of May 1968. Edouard tries to persuade her to stay and discovers that Gilbert might be his father.
