Some 700 Auraucans live along 15 kilometers in the narrow valley of the Ruca Choroy river, the summer months are tense in preparation for the harsh winter, during which they remain totally isolated. They look for firewood, plant and harvest grass to feed the few sheep they own. Women weave their traditional handicrafts and young people must emigrate in search of work in remote areas.
