"João da Mata" is the most important Brazilian movie of the "Ciclo de Campinas". The story questions the theme of land and Agrarian Reform in Brazil, and shows the landowners (pejoratively called "coronéis" in Portuguese) as brutal and unfair men. Unfortunately this movie is destroyed and there are only fragments. This film was so important that entrepreneurs of Campinas invested lots of money in studios, equipment and experienced professionals, in the first experience of Cinema in Brazil.
