In the summer of 1944, in his studio, the sculptor works on the statue of freedom. A young girl poses for him. She is the girlfriend of the composer who is jealous of her. The sculptor and his fiancé, the nightclub singer takes part in the antifascist struggle. They duplicate leaflets and other materials in an underground printing press. The sculptor's sister is a ballet-dancer and is the contact between the printers and the distributors of clandestine literature. The police pick up their trail and surround the house. The sculptor and his fiancé are arrested. In a goal, the captured antifascists await their sentences. Guerilla fighters descend from the mountains. They force the prison gates open. The sculptor and the singer are freed. They embrace. At the end there are documentary footage showing the jubilation of the victorious people, the welcoming of the partisans and the arrival of the Red army.
