The long closed Molly's Reach, the diner located in the iconic but crumbling building on Gibsons, BC's waterfront, is imminently scheduled to be demolished by its part owner, Chuckchee Properties, the actual person behind Chuckchee who has decided to remain anonymous. That person is to whoever former but now deceased half owner, Relic Phillips, sold or deeded his part ownership. This move to demolish does not sit well with many who have just returned to Gibsons. Donna McGonigal, who grew up in Gibsons, is the other half owner, it given to her as a graduation present by her slightly shady father, Dave McGonigal, who bought that half from Relic in a get-rich-quick scheme which didn't pay off. Donna knew nothing about the demolition, but doesn't care just as long as she can sell her interest in the property. Always scheming Dave, however, wants to reopen Molly's Reach,... or so he says. Another interested party is Nick Adonidis, who has a ninety-nine year unbreakable lease for office space in the building to run Nick's Salvage, his beachcombing business. Nick long moved away from Gibsons, but had sublet the space to Scott Rivers, who also grew up in Gibsons, was Donna's childhood sweetheart, but has only just returned after his wanderlust changed to homesickness. Purely on a business level, Donna has no intention of honoring the sublease. Chuckchee's interests are being handled by local lawyer George Rivers, Scott's father, the two who have never seen eye-to-eye on anything. And Staff Sergeant John Constable, his physician wife Ann Shirley Constable, and their thirteen year old daughter Stephanie Constable have just returned from a vacation. John wants to retire from the force and move away from Gibsons, a place where he's given thirty years of his life and where he just has memories of times past and a job for which he no longer has passion. However, the post-retirement move is not a done deal as the women in the family have no intention to follow him. What happens with The Reach will depend on the maneuverings of all the players, but perhaps mostly by Scott who has to bring in a log by a deadline to demonstrate that he truly is running Nick's business to have the sublease honored, it in an area where beachcombing is all but a dead industry. Scott's task is even more difficult by the behind the scenes obstacle placed by Chuckchee of which he is unaware until it's too late literally to turn back.
