Christmas Eve-born Jack Davenport, a journalist who lives in Chicago, is at a low point in his life: he's about to turn 40, he and his wife are on the verge of divorce, and his career is at a low point. He badly needs a story in Texas which requires him to be away from his wife and her family at Christmastime. He also realizes that he is the reason that his marriage is flailing. His life seemed purposeless; his last known relative, his father, died almost a year ago. He was adopted at birth but has no information about his birth parents. In a safe-deposit box he finds what might be a clue to his past: an old black-and-white photograph of a church in Clearwater, Texas. He decides to go there first before he pursues his story in Dallas. Will he find the answers he seeks there? Or will he just find more road blocks and frustrations?
