Haha no chizu (1942)

Faced with loss of wealth, connections and status, a formerly high-class family who lived in a large house with servants in Gunma, relocates to Tokyo joining a family member. All they can afford is a rental house, but remain happy just to be together. The elder son travels to China to build wealth by establishing a business. At the same time, a daughter receives a marriage proposal from a rich family's son. This disappoints a friend of her brother's who also had eyes on her compelling the man to also relocate to China. Soon, the family decides to relocate to China as well, having received word that the elder son is on the cusp of success and is even a father now.
