Storyline:  In 1928 Manchuria, Japanese student Itami falls deeply for Cynthia, a Chinese woman. Their love is destroyed by a brutal act of Japanese extremists, leaving Cynthia’s world in ruins. Years later, now in Shanghai and renamed Ding Hui, she has joined the underground resistance group Purple Butterfly. Unbeknownst to her, Itami has also returned—this time as a secret agent tasked with crushing the very movement she serves. As passions and politics collide, destiny forces them into a tragic confrontation.
