Seong Chunhyang (1987)

Based on the Legend of Chunhyang. Chunhyang, the daughter of a kisaeng which is the Korean version of a Japanese geisha, is courted by a young nobleman. He goes to Seoul to study for a test that will grant him an appointment from the king, but he promises to return for her. While he is gone, the regional governor tries to take advantage of her but she rebuffs all his threats and enticements. Finally she is imprisoned for her loyalty to her lover and under threat of death.
