Married lawyer Dick Dashton and crime reporter turned gossip columnist Dorothy Dashton also host a popular Chicago morning radio show, Breakfast with Dick and Dorothy, their fans who enjoy their married banter and the fact that they like to support unusual i.e. weird causes through the show. Their latest cause is to find the woman who they ran into last evening, she who seemed to be in some medical distress but who they eventually lost in the mêlée. Her defining characteristic was what looked to be an ancient Egyptian necklace she was wearing. While some listeners also ran into this woman but none knows her identity, Dorothy reads in the newspaper about who she believes this woman to be: Mona Rankin, the Associate Curator at the Chicago Museum of Antiquities where Dick sits on the Board, Mona the second in charge at the facility to her boss, Prescott Madigan. The issue: Mona Rankin died three days ago in what they further learn was suicide, her body entombed in a crypt the following day. Using Dick's connection to the museum, Dick and Dorothy try to find out Mona's story in figuring out if the woman they saw truly was an alive Mona. As Dick and Dorothy proceed, they find that someone or some people don't want them to find out the truth in they being shot at, and that a real murder does occur, the unknown murderer who may or may not be behind the people shooting at them.
