Madame Bovary (1974)

Emma Bovary, disappointed by her husband, a mediocre doctor shy on ambition, leads a dull life in a small village in Normandy. A victim of her exalted romanticism, she takes for lover a gentleman from the neighborhood, then a notary clerk.
