In the film Achtiien (Eighteen) Koen meets the mysterious Colet in the cemetery of his village, who falls in love with him. Because Koen has just finished a brief, failed relationship with Marlous, he keeps Colet at a distance from the start. But Colet turns out to be an enterprising, rather anarchistic girl with a polish on authorities like school and police. It is a characteristic that the freedom-loving Koen, himself the son of Johanna, a police detective secretly admires. When visiting Koens house, Colet discovered that Johanna Koens had put his life on video from the very beginning. Koen explains that this happens because he never knew his father. If he ever shows up, he can view them. Koen is the product of a holiday love of his mother and Thomas. He has never been very busy about it and he does not know the urge to visit his father, something that Colet thinks is incomprehensible, especially now that her mother has just died. The next day Koen finds a first letter from Thomas in an encyclopedia of his grandmother. Together with Colet, he reads the letter that completely changes the image of his parents' encounter; no holiday tip but a big one, albeit a short love it was. Koen confronts Johanna, who says he does not know anything about the letter.
