For the young Hans Christian Andersen, a life as a world-renowned poet seems like a distant illusion. He has just experienced failure on stage and has returned to the start. However, the powerful state councilor Collin sees potential in him, and sponsors a stay at Slagelse Latin School. Here, Hans Christian has to fight hard for himself and his art under the stern gaze of principal Meisling.
