Tanhai (1972)

Rehana is a destitute who is just out of jail. Character actress Sulochana plays a short role as her mentor. she gets a job as a care taker in barrister Iftekar's house . Rich people in movies of those days were shown with a silk house coat and a pipe in their hands . Here too , he is shown with a perpetual pipe in his hand . His only son Anil Dhawan falls for her. After the initial hesitation , teasing and bantering both fall for each other. Slowly , she tells her story that she was a secretary to a very big man. He tries to molest her unfortunately and when she resists , she ends up stabbing him.that's how , she landed in the women's remand home. Anil, with his friend Shatrughan corners and punishes the villain who is the owner of the local gambling den and bar . Both Rehana and Laxshmi Chaya ( Shatrughana's girl friend ) wear short skirts and show off their slim legs . Rehana shows her emotions very subtly . Anil is super as the tall , handsome rich scion . He is perfect when confused with his feelings at first , a darling son of his doting mother , when teasing Rehana, then sure of his feelings towards her , then angry as her story comes to light . Shatrughan is likable as his friend. Anil's initial movies had at least one sizzling song . Here too he gets to sing with Rehana in drizzle and cold . Over all a worthy watch.
