She studies in college where she meets with a handsome young man named Ketan Kapoor and both fall in love with each other. When her dad finds out, he instructs her not to meet nor see Ketan again, but she ignores his instructions, elopes, marries Ketan, and moves into a hotel room. Jagat refuses to have to do anything with his daughter. After a few months, the young couples' money runs out, Ketan is unable to find work, as he does not even have a diploma, and they move into Zeba's, a friend of Mini's, house where she lives with her husband, Rehmat. Problems mount for this young couple, as Mini becomes pregnant, gives birth to a baby boy. As Ketan is still unable to secure any employment, Mini gets an offer to model, which she accepts, and does not inform her employer that she is married, and has a son. She soon gets to be very busy and has her photographs appear in all leading magazines. Ketan is able to secure employment as a singer, and soon gets very popular, in order not to disappoint his female fans, he openly declares he is not married, leave alone has a son. The child, hurt, confused, and tormented by this neglect starts having psychological problems, runs away, and does what no other child has ever done in India - seek a divorce from his parents - the reason - neglect. When Meenakshi and Ketan come to know this, they are sure that this is a plot to snare their child away by none other than Jagat, who they feel wants them to separate, and have Mini move in back with him.
