As spectacular as the rise of Doris Inge Wegener, former soldering woman in a radio factory, to the celebrated superstar Manuela was, the descent was just as quiet and painful. Dropped by the media and cheated of her royalties by bad consultants, the long-cherished dream of a big comeback was no longer to be fulfilled due to the singer's early death. Manuela created a new trend with her singing style: She was the first to outsmart the popular foreign music competition and sang cheekily in broken German.
