April 2004. Casualties mount in Iraq. Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a desk soldier haunted by his lack of combat experience, volunteers for a poignant assignment: escorting the remains of a young Marine, Pfc. Chance Phelps, home to Wyoming. As Strobl travels across America, witnessing the outpouring of grief and gratitude from strangers, he confronts his own sacrifices and grapples with the true cost of war.
