As the head Sister of Stirling Hospice, an isolated sanctuary for terminal patients, Sister Evans is left alone in the long hours to carry out her treatments as she sees fit. Having witnessed as a child the fatal injuries and suffering of her own horse after a horrific car accident, Sister Evans harbors a secret subconscious desire to sympathetically end the lives of the terminally ill. Evans routinely ends the lives of her incurable patients from children to the elderly, sometimes with family consent, sometimes without it. When a dying mother begs her daughter Belle to end her suffering, Sister Evans is there to propose a solution that only she can provide. Belle is now faced with heart wrenching internal conflicts about the ongoing anguish of her mother and her role in deciding whether to illegally end her torturous remaining life.
